~Chapter 13 ~
Sin knew she was being followed. Whoever it was had been doing it now for a few days. She’d noticed him the day after her and Payton had started sleeping together. Sleeping? They hadn’t really done a whole lot of that, but it had been wonderful.
They’d gone to Tightly Bound last night. Byron had been there, but not Taylor. He’d shown them around and even gave them a tour of his own private play room. Sin had tried not to be embarrassed, but it had been difficult. Most of the “toys” he’d shown them were things she’d only heard of, not seen. Payton had asked all kinds of questions and then had spent a small fortune in the shop even with the “family” discount Byron had insisted on giving them.
But they’d used some of the things and, as it was right now, she wanted to rub her nipples where they still ached a bit from the rings he’d clamped there. She looked over at him and blushed when he winked as if he knew what she’d been thinking. She turned to David and Sally. “And I’m supposed to trust her why?” She pointed to the girl. “Her I don’t know from Adam and the last time I heard, you’re still a part of my problem, not the solution.”
David looked over at the girl and nodded. Something was going on and she was sure she wasn’t going to like it. Blindly she reached for David’s hand and he took it. Sally stood up and sat next to David.
“My name is Sally Patterson. David is…he’s my dad. I’m pretty sure you can trust me as much as you do him, Miss Waite. Or do you still go by captain?”
“Mostly Sin. He calls me Sydney.” She pointed at Payton with her free hand. “Daughter? I can see your mom in you. How come…you wanted to keep her safe in case? You are a sly bastard, aren’t you?”
David laughed. “Her mother did it mostly. She made sure no one in the service knew about her. By the time I’d met you it had become habit and she was already away at college by then. She…she has wanted to meet you for years. I just…things went from bad to worse when you got hurt.”
Sin didn’t say anything. What could she say really? He was right and they both knew it. She looked over at Payton. He leaned forward and spoke to David.
“What do you mean someone is trying to kill her? Is it because of me?” Payton grinned. “You should be a little more selective about who you have investigating me. My mom has plenty of friends in high places.”
David laughed. “No, though you should know that you’re involved too. And when you showed up here today I figured you knew. This does have to do with you as well, as I’ve said. You both know a man that is indirectly and directly involved.”
“Carl Wickett. Yeah, Payton told me. And he was married to my sister Quinn for about ten minutes.
